Complications

Shingles is a serious illness that causes considerable pain and may sometimes result in more severe complications. The chance of complications is higher if shingles is not treated promptly within 72 hours of onset. Unfortunately, many doctors miss the tell-tale signs of shingles when the rash isn't yet present.
